im going to start playing the guitar and my dad is macking me use his and i need my own

Based on my experience, learning guitar won’t be impossible as long as you are willing to practice every day. You might not think you sound so good in the beginning, but you’ll notice a difference as time passes. As for a guitar, you really should never buy one online unless you’ve already tried it out, to make sure you like it. Also, you shouldn’t look for a cheap guitar, because quality really takes a dive (bad intonation, staying in tune poorly, etc.) once you reach a certain point. And that WILL make learning properly even harder for you. Unless you really hate your dad’s guitar, you should use it until you can get a decent beginner’s guitar.

Cheap Electric Guitars: Saving Room for Cheap Electric Guitar Gear

Posted in cheap guitars | November 16th, 2009

Buying cheap electric guitars is a great way for beginning guitar players to save money, but you’ll need some other important accessories before you become the next guitar god.

Let’s be optimistic and assume you found a gem of a cheap electric guitar for a price within your means. Remember to keep some room in your budget for a few more items necessary to rock your block off.

The most expensive companion for any beginner guitar is an amplifier. Amps can cost just as much, or even more than the nicest guitars. You’ll need to roll up your sleeves and continue to dig for bargains in order to keep your guitar dreams from breaking your bank account.

You may be able to find a good deal on an electric guitar package that will include a cheap electric guitar and amp combo. Lots of music stores will offer combination deals like this for beginner guitar equipment. Do the math and see if this kind of purchase makes financial sense.

Once you’ve secured a good deal on an amp or guitar/amplifier combo there’s one more essential accessory left to buy. You’ll need a cable to connect the two. Such a simple thing it would seem, yet this is one item you shouldn’t cheap out on. Cheap electric guitar cables are likely made with poor quality and won’t last long at all. It’s best to spring for a top notch brand of guitar cable that won’t give you problems. Otherwise you’ll be back at the store in just a few weeks buying a better one.

Once you have your guitar, amp, and a cable to connect the two, you’ll be ready to rock. If you have a few extra bucks burning a hole in your pocket there are a few more items that will enhance your shredding experience.

You can probably persuade the person selling you the guitar to give you a pick or two, but you may want to buy some on your own. Guitar picks are cheap, but come in various levels of thickness. You should try out a few different versions to find the type that suits your style. There’s also a wide variety of novelty guitar picks that may have cool designs or might even glow in the dark.

Picks won’t cost you much so hopefully you still have a few spare bucks to buy a strap for your cheap electric guitar. A strap is not a necessity for a beginning player. You’ll find it easier to learn while sitting down. But there will come a time when you master your first riff and the urge to stand up and play like a pro will be irresistible. When you’re shopping for a strap be sure to try it on to see how it feels. You shouldn’t be concerned with looks; only comfort.

Hopefully you can acquire all these items within your budget. With some patience and a touch of bargain hunter savvy, you’ll have all the gear you need to rock out on a cheap electric guitar.

Cheap Guitar pt 1 – setting it up

Posted in cheap guitars | November 9th, 2009

My $55 guitar needed truss rod adjustment, nut trimming, neck shimming, bridge setup, fret levelling, and that got it from 3/8″ action in the shop down to nice and low. If I could be happy with this cheapo then I could happily sell the more expensive guitars I’m not worthy to play. But just when things were going great, it sounded like the humbucker was a bit scratchy…

Cheap Electric Guitars: for the Beginner or Frugal Shredder

Posted in cheap guitars | November 6th, 2009

Cheap electric guitars are a great solution for any beginner or cost conscious shredder. My first urge to learn how to play the guitar came when I was 12 years old. I confidently asked my mother to buy me an electric guitar, but she was put off by the high priced major brands. My heart was set on learning to play, so she found a cheap electric guitar on sale at our local toy store.

It was absolutely a beginner guitar. The amplifier was built into the body of it. My first guitar teacher found it hilarious, never actually seeing one like that before.

I learned all the basics of playing on that guitar. I spent hours alone in my room with it, and had the blisters on my fingers to prove it. I showed my mom that the guitar wasn’t something I was going to get bored with after a week and earned the right to plug it into a real amp; a decision her eardrums soon came to regret.

Cheap electric guitars aren’t just for beginners. I know a number of seasoned veteran players that are always finding great deals on cheap electric guitars that provide them with the quality they demand.

Let’s face it – instruments are expensive. High quality electric guitars will easily cost over $1,000; and that’s not even including a decent amp. A passion for guitar playing can easily burn a hole in your wallet, so finding a cheap electric guitar is a worth the effort.

If you’re just starting to learn how to play guitar, the thought of running out and buying the best gear is easy to get excited about. But use caution; spending a lot of money on top notch guitar equipment could be a mistake for a beginner. The early stages of learning to play can be frustrating. When guitar gods like Eddie Van Halen or Jimmy Page make it look easy while you’re having trouble laying down a bar chord, you’ll soon be tempted to perform the classic “guitar smash”.

Unfortunately many people get too frustrated with their beginning lessons and give up on learning to play too soon. I strongly recommend your first electric guitar purchase to be a cheap electric guitar for that reason.

You can learn to play on a cheap electric guitar just as well as you would if you bought an expensive one. A cheap guitar may even be better suited for learning. The reason for this is that typically cheap electric guitars require you to apply more pressure with your fingers to get the right sound output. This will strengthen your fingers quicker, giving you an edge over someone learning on a premium model. When you do make your first expensive guitar purchase, the built up strength will pay off when you can play better than the average player.
