Posted in electric guitar lessons | February 8th, 2010

Alright, I am 15 years old and can’t decide which I should do…. I only have enough money for 200$ aggressive skates or like 10 weeks of guitar lessons. Give me reasons on which I should do?

think of which one you would benifit more from, for aggressive skates are you going to do road hockey or whatever alot?

and do you think that you’ll really like electric guitar after a week or so?

I would try maybe some okay skates and a couple weeks of guitar lessons

How 2 play electric guitar? Lessons? Tips? etc.?

Posted in electric guitar lessons | January 30th, 2010

OK I like totally dont know how to play a guitar but i recently got one and i want to learn how to play it. Is there any Tips, Videos, or advice u guys could give me..Anything? thnx.

alot of people i see here post things such as ”i taught myself piano its easy”
let me say any instrument is easy, but to properly play it & understand what the heck your doing (this helps your creative process when writing your own stuff) is another different matter.
i could be taught to recite out 10 basic piano tunes, but give me the likes of Mozarts music & ask me to use certain techniques that are heard on piano. i would fail (as would all the people claiming ”its easy”)

the problem with teaching yourself guitar (or any instrument) is that alot of people give up they get frustrated. (supposedly 90% of self taught musicians quit)
also alot of people can ”play” guitar, ie bang out a few songs & intros eg starirway to heaven.
guitarists are a dime a dozen, everybody plays guitar (heck i play guitar) however a decent guitarist is hard to find this is where you can benifit from lessons.

Lessons are definitely a great idea, a teacher can show you techniques & correct you. i still get corrected over things i do at my lessons.
alot of the internet resources aren’t that great, again it is alot of amateurs with bad technique or looking to make a quick buck.

every music autobiography i have read (& i read quite a fair bit of them) the guitarist/any instrument, has gotten lessons at some point.
there are a rare few virtuoso (ie talented) people who didn’t get lessons but even at that they start practicing with other people who have got lessons & learn off them.
As somebody said those ”guitar for dummies” are great, however that is as a side tool to reference to. not to just teach yourself, at a glance you learn the basics but when you study those books they can get quite complicated & a teacher can clear any questions you have.
a teacher also encourages you to practice & gives you set goals.

PS try not to ask people to give you the chords to a song, its better if you can work them out yourself it creates an ear for certain notes. however make sure what you are playing is correct.

I want to start electric guitar lessons! Can anyone help?

Posted in electric guitar lessons | January 10th, 2010

I have absolutelly no idea of what kind of guitar I should start with or what kind of teacher should I hire… All in all I know absolutelly nothing about the matter! Please help!

Start with a cheapie like a Yamaha, Hondo, Charvette, Eclipse, Ibanez RG series maybe?, just make sure the neck is straight the strings are not buzzing on the frets and also that theyre not too high off the fretboard. also try out every one in the shop to see which one has ‘the right feel" when its in your hands, also make sure the tuning keys are good quality and dont slip backwards once theyre tightened, this will cause tuning problems……as a beginner you dont need a $1200 pro machine, or whatever? so stick with the best cheapie model until youre ready to move up. Youll only need a small amp maybe 35 – 50 watts , combo or cab and head is up to you, you can find great bargains on bay all the time, but if you can get two small amps you can plug em together to get a great stereo sound!!. Reverb is great if you can find a small amp that has it, it really gives you a good sound. Having a good practice sound will encourage you to make better music, if your rig sounds skinny or crap, youll be dissappionted and probably give up or sell the gear?……. Check out all the instructional videos on Youtube also, there are squillions of cool guitarists there wanting to show you how to play stuff, some are easy to follow, some are just there to show off and blow you away. You can also download free TAB’s on P2P sites like Ares, Limewire, or Frostwire etc.
Also dont give up when the going gets difficult, the whole point is to stay with it until youve got it sussed……they say it takes a minimum of 5000 hours to get the guitar sorted, from there you just develop more and more (hopefully) Go hard……… or give up and feel like a loser for the rest of your life, the choice is yours.

Learn to Play The Acoustic Guitar – Fast

Posted in electric guitar lessons | January 5th, 2010

As you probably know the most traditional type of guitar is the acoustic guitar. The electric guitar wasn’t even invented till the thirties where as the acoustic guitar has been around since 1779.

The Acoustic guitar doesn’t produce a loud sound like the electric guitar as it is not amplified, however played well by a trained guitarist, the acoustic guitar is a very powerful and emotion enhancing instrument., this is where you want to get to with your guitar playing, to evoke emotion.

The good news is that playing the guitar is not that difficult when shown correctly. To begin with it is vital that you choose the most suitable guitar to learn to play with. It must be the right size and weight for your individuality. You shouldn’t try to use someone else’s guitar when you learn to play the acoustic guitar as the size and weight may not be right for you. Basically to get good we fully recommend that you take the time to find and buy your own guitar which is prefect for you, electric or acoustic.

Guitars are quite easy to obtain. You can purchase them new at most every music store new or second hand if you are on a low budget, again, just make sure it is the right dimensions for you.

Once you have your guitar you’re ready to begin. There are many methods that you can learn to play the acoustic guitar. You just have to choose the way which is most convenient for you.

The most common methods to learn acoustic guitar are as follows
Take lessons – This is probably the most popular method to learn guitar. You pay someone who is qualified to teach acoustic guitar to instruct you. The advantage is you have someone who can work with you bespoke one-on-one. They will motivate you and ensure you’re using proper technique. If you get stuck they will be able to help you.

Taking lessons from a private teacher also has some disadvantages. Your lessons are normally weekly and set for a certain time which may not always be continent plus you really need to practice more regular to get really good and of course you have to pay weekly. These costs can really become expensive. You have to work the lessons in around your busy life and finally, you have to pack up your guitar and get to the lessons.

Online lessons and multi-media courses – Thanks to modern technology you can gain almost any knowledge and learn just about anything you want to on the internet, including of course how to learn acoustic guitar online.

Jamorama acoustic is one of the most popular courses on the net today. The course has been one of the best ways to learn to play the guitar from your own home and is reasonable price for all that you get with the course. This online course starts you at (I do not know where my fingers go) beginner to oh my god how did I get so good. Ben Edwards is the creator of the course and he has put together a great entry level guitar lessons with easy to use instructions. They do have a downloadable lessons as well as a hard copy that they can ship to you. With the price difference, I recommend that you purchase the downloadable version.

What is the best website for free electric guitar lessons?

Posted in electric guitar lessons | January 1st, 2010

By the way, my amp says OD and clean, is OD disortion?
And what is that little bar thing that you can move for (not the whammy bar)

I have a Fender Starcaster.

There are many free electric guitar lessons online. But, like many things in life, you get what you pay for. I would highly recommend investing in paid guitar lessons online. For lesson that 50 dollars you can get quality video guitar lessons.

Most likely the OD on your amp is distortion.

I am not sure about the bar?
