I like how Mayer is …
I like how Mayer is humble in front of the great BB King. A lot of people think he is a complete ass, but he knows when to be modest and humble.

@ycomp he plays a cherry ES 335 sometimes. very similar to BB’s guitar, which he used heavily when he toured with the “john mayer trio”. he usually uses it on “i’m gonna find another you” and “come when i call”.

even so….who cares? He sells more CD’s than you or I or 99% of all the other blues guitarist, and he’s getting blues out to thousands of mainstream listeners! How the is that a bad thing? He’s making millions, hes winning grammys. As I tell everyone who criticizes any musician, there is no good or bad, theres only what you like and what you dont like. Shit, I would emulate SRV if I could.

Mayer is now really …
But i think John is one of the best young blues players….
Mayer is now really good, much better then he was before. For example Crossroads 2007… He was really really good. Of course B.B. is simply B.B

John Mayer wasn’t …
John Mayer wasn’t great but I have to say he pulled it off quite nicely.
and you can’t compare Mayer to the King.

At least John …
At least John admitted that all he does is steal other blues players’ sounds. He’s a good songwriter/arranger. He’s a great technical guitar player. And he’s a great copycat. But he’s never gonna be a bluesman. Listen to his solo after B.B. There’s no balls. There’s no soul. It’s not what he does, it’s how he does it. Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd will always blow him out of the water.

Derek Trucks is …
Derek Trucks is okay, but he does what he does; and nothing more. Mayer is a much more versatile guitar player.
