I think there are very good Aria acoustic guitars for 200 bucks. Those are quite common here in European shops, but there should be some in America too.
References :
If she's just starting then you should get her a 3/4 or 1/2 sized guitar to help her get comfortable. Make sure its nylon strings for the first guitar, not steel. I used to have one when I started to learn and mum says it was only $60. But now I am able to play a full sized, steel string, electric acoustic guitar. I don't pay any attention to the brands. Most Music shops will help you with the first buy.
References :
I got my first guitar at around her age and it was an Ibanez AE (acoustic-electric) guitar. It's worked well for me. They tend to be around $300.
References :
Yamaha makes a relatively sturdy and very nice sounding guitar that you can probably get in a kit with a strap and tuner at Sam Ash or music123.com. It is a full-size guitar (but "full size" is relative, as it's smaller than most professional guitars), but I simply have not seen a child-size guitar that's made well. Let her try one at the store to make sure.
